How To Install Our Window Blinds, Shades and Shutters
General Installation Instructions: product specific instructions are at bottom of this page
Read First: Un-package your window treatments carefully and do NOT use a razor blade or knife to open the boxes. It is very easy to cut a string or the blind or shade itself. Take care when removing the treatment from the box that it was shipped in; some treatments are more delicate than others. Remove all of the packing that was used in shipping, again taking care to do so. Place all the window coverings in front of the appropriate windows; this helps if there are several treatments for different windows so you don't get them mixed up. Then place all the mounting hardware and fasteners at each window.
Tools Needed: Although special tools are generally not required when installing window treatments, it is suggested that you use a battery operated drill with a phillips and/or hex head bit. It makes the job easier. If you don't have a cordless drill then a simple screwdriver/nut-driver will work. You will also need a tape measure, scissors and pencil. These are the most common tools needed, others may be required.
For Wood, Faux and Mini Blinds: These products generally have box-type brackets that mount on the two ends of the blind and if it's a wider treatment it may have center supports. For an inside mount the brackets generally go in the top two corners, near the front edge of the window opening. For an outside mount it's best to hold the blind up and mark the two ends with a pencil. See specific instructions below.
For Window Shades: Window shades like roller shades and sun shades have end mount brackets and cellular shades and bamboo shades have rear mount brackets that are evenly placed along the back side of the headrail and normally not visible inside the home. See specific install instructions below.
For Vertical Blinds: For inside mount verticals make sure you mount the decorative valance first and some inside mount valances require trimming of the corners. See complete vertical blind installations instructions below. If an outside mount the valance is installed last.
All other window coverings like sliding panels, shutters, faux wood arches, etc have specific instructions below.
